Hints & Tips - Cylinder Rim Locks Cylinder Rim Locks are available in a number of styles and offer a range of variable features. When selecting a cylinder rim lock, it is important that you choose the right lock for your particular need and application. For glazed doors, or for doors with a glass surround, it is important that the lock has a lockable handle. This will prevent entry should a burglar break the glass, reach in and try to release the lock For improved security, it is advised that mortice locks are also fitted in order to supplement the cylinder rim lock. This is especially important on front doors. |

Hints & Tips - Mortice Locks These operate by the key lifting internal levers to varying heights to allow the bolt to throw out. The more levers a lock has, the harder it is to pick. The minimum standard you should consider is 5 levers. Those locks that conform to BS 3621 have additional safeguards: (i) The bolt contains revolving steel pins that will roll under a hacksaw blade, preventing the blade from cutting through it. (ii) The sides of the casing are drill-resistant hardened steel. (iii) The keeper that fits in the door frame is a steel box. This prevents an intruder forcing the bolt back into the lock. |
