How can you be sure that the car sitting on that forecourt, begging you to buy it, hasn't been a write-off?
How can you be sure that there's no finance outstanding on it?

HPI aims to uncover the truth behind used cars 1 in 3 of which have some form of hidden history. They hold details of over 55 million cars nationwide, and can inform you instantly of any issues outstanding with your prospective vehicle purchase.

These are some of the checks that HPI can do for you:

Vehicle Identity Check the HPI details against your car. Make, model, colour,engine size and number, fuel type and transmission. All as first recorded by the manufacturer and DVLA.

VIN Match The VIN is a unique 17 digit security number which is hard (but not impossible) to tamper with. HPI has over 50million VINs on file. HPI can confirm that the VIN and registration number belong to the same car.

First Registration To help you assess the true age of your vehicle and therefore the accuracy of its mileage.

Outstanding Finance A vehicle purchased on finance will still belong to the finance company until the finance debt has been paid off in full. If you buy a car with outstanding finance on it, the company may be able to repossess it. HPI can check this for you.

Condition Alert It's unlikely that a seller will tell you if the vehicle has been accident damaged or stolen. Don't let appearances fool you. HPI has over 4 million on its database that have been written off or stolen and not recovered

Condition Inspected Written-off vehicles can be repaired and put back on the road quite legitimately, if they pass an independant structural examination..HPI can give you details of such vehicles examined since 1995

Stolen Vehicles A stolen vehicle always belongs to the original owner (or the insurance company that paid out on it) HPI has access to stolen vehicle records on the Police National Computer. Don't buy a car that can never belong to you!

Security Watch Many cars are fraudulently offered for sale - hire cars for example. HPI maintains a database of vehicles like this, felt to be at risk. With this check, you will be warned if it is not legally for sale.

Plate Transfer HPI can tell if the vehicle has had a plate change. Reasons for changing plates are usually innocent (personalised plates for example) However, they can be changed to hide a multitude of problems. Don't take chances.
